Rita recently joined host Kathy Segal-Garcia for a special Noon Time Hang: Birds of a Feather Edition conversation, offering a personal look at her music, life on the road, and the upcoming Los Angeles debut of her show After Dark.
Rita will take the stage at Birds of a Feather Jazz Lounge at Au Lac in downtown Los Angeles on Thursday, September 24, from 7:00 to 8:30 PM. Although Rita was born in Los Angeles, she revealed during the interview that she has never actually performed there, making this homecoming engagement particularly meaningful. "It's like my debut in Los Angeles," Rita shared, explaining that the trip will also give her an opportunity to spend time with her parents and revisit some of the places connected to her family's history and her own early years. Returning to Her Jazz Roots During the conversation, Rita shared what audiences can expect from After Dark. While another of her touring shows celebrates the music of The Carpenters and Bread, her Los Angeles performance will bring her back to the jazz repertoire at the heart of several of her recordings. The evening will feature favorite jazz standards, selections from her albums, familiar songs reimagined through a jazz lens, and the deeply personal interpretations that have become a hallmark of Rita's performances. Joining Rita will be her longtime musical director and pianist David Siegel, along with bassist Frank Abraham and drummer Chris Wabich. Rita also teased the possibility of some special guest vocalists joining her during the evening. From Las Vegas to Audiences Across the Country The interview also touches on an exciting chapter in Rita's career as she continues to take her music beyond Las Vegas. A regular headliner at Myron's at The Smith Center, Rita has been touring nationally, with recent performances taking her to New York City and Atlantic City and upcoming engagements introducing her music to audiences in new cities across the country. For Rita, however, Los Angeles holds a special significance. It's not only a city filled with extraordinary musicians and jazz lovers, but the place where her own story began. Watch Rita's complete conversation with Kathy Segal-Garcia ABOVE to hear more about After Dark, her musicians, her touring shows, her connection to Los Angeles, and why this upcoming performance means so much to her.
